The Day-Date is the watch of a global, multicultural and ever-changing world.

When it was introduced in 1956, the Day-Date represented a major innovation: it was the first calendar wristwatch to display the day of the week written in full in a semi-circular window at 12 o’clock in addition to the date – a remarkable technical achievement at the time. Available exclusively in precious metals – 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold, or 950 platinum – and fitted with its legendary President bracelet, its wide choice of dials allows the wearer’s personality to shine through.

The Day-Date speaks the language of its wearer

Although the days are the same everywhere, they are written differently according to the language. The Day-Date expresses the cultural identity of its wearer through a wide range of scripts – Latin, Arabic, Cyrillic, Hebrew, Japanese, Chinese ideograms and even the Ge’ez abugida used in the Horn of Africa. Available in a choice of 26 languages, it is an international, universal and personal watch.

The midnight miracle
An ideal of precision

At midnight, the date and day change simultaneously in their respective windows on the dial. This watchmaking feat, known as the “midnight miracle”, relies on a disc mechanism and is the result of years of research: between 1950 and 1955, Rolex registered four patents for timepieces displaying both the date and the day of the week.

Today, the Day-Date is equipped with calibre 3255, a movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex that guarantees superlative performance.

The President bracelet

Made exclusively from 18 ct gold or 950 platinum, the three-piece link President bracelet was created specially for the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date and unveiled at the launch of this prestigious watch in 1956. It remains reserved for the Day-Date and precious-metal versions of the Datejust.
