Robust and functional, the Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II is designed to display two time zones simultaneously, making it the ideal watch for world travellers. Introduced in 1955, the GMT-Master witnessed the rapid expansion of intercontinental air travel in the second half of the 20th century. It became the official watch of Pan American World Airways, then the leading American international airline.

The Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II’s direct connection with time zones and long-distance travel is reflected in both its name and its functions.

A true tool watch, the GMT-Master was continually developed to deliver ever-improving technical performance. In 1982, Rolex introduced a calibre allowing the hour hand to be set independently of the minute and 24-hour hands. The model equipped with this optimised movement was named GMT-Master II.

An instrument for multiple time zones

The GMT-Master II’s graduated bezel is an unmistakable aesthetic signature. On its two-colour insert, the lower half represents daytime hours and the upper half night-time hours. Together with the triangular 24-hour hand, it displays local and reference time, or local time and another time zone, simultaneously.

The latest GMT-Master II is equipped with calibre 3285, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. It features the blue Parachrom hairspring, Chronergy escapement and a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.

High-technology ceramic

Rolex makes the Cerachrom insert from a single piece of extremely hard ceramic. This scratchproof and colourfast material enabled the first single-piece two-colour insert in black and blue in 2013, followed in 2014 by red and blue, the original GMT-Master colours.

Further combinations followed: brown and black in 2018, green and black in 2022, and grey and black in 2023. In 2025, Rolex introduced its first ceramic dial on the GMT-Master II, in the same green as the lower half of its green-and-black Cerachrom insert.

Superlative Chronometer certification

Like all Rolex watches, the GMT-Master II carries the Superlative Chronometer certification, confirming that it has passed tests conducted by Rolex according to its own criteria. The green seal symbolises this status and is coupled with an international five-year guarantee.
